A2SV FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about A2SV and our mission.

01

Is A2SV contributing to brain drain in Africa?

Not at all. 80% of our graduates stay and build their careers on the African continent. About 10% receive international offers from top tech companies, and another 10% pursue academic careers. We provide quality education, just like universities do. The individual decides where to build their career. Should we stop educating people because some might choose global opportunities? Education is never the problem.

02

Is the program free?

Yes, completely free for all accepted students. We believe talent is everywhere but opportunity is not. Cost should never stand between a motivated student and world-class technical education.

03

How are donations used?

Every dollar goes directly toward student training, mentorship, and program operations. With a total budget of just $4 million over five years, we have trained over 1,200 software engineers, helped students receive 123 job offers at top tech companies, and incubated more than 20 digital products that solve real problems across Africa. You can see the full breakdown in our 5 Years of Impact report.

04

How can I apply to A2SV?

We accept applications from university students across Africa. Head over to our Apply page to check current openings, eligibility, and deadlines. The selection process looks at problem-solving ability, motivation, and commitment. No prior coding experience is needed.

05

Why does A2SV only operate at certain universities?

We currently run in-person education at 5 universities across Africa, and our remote programs reach even more students. We grow carefully on purpose because we want to keep the quality of our curriculum and mentorship high. Every new location is chosen based on student demand, university readiness, and where we can create the most impact.

06

Can my company hire A2SV graduates?

Absolutely. Our graduates go through a rigorous 1,000+ hour training program and are placed at companies like Google, Amazon, and Bloomberg. If you are looking for vetted, interview-ready engineers for full-time, contract, or remote roles, check out Eskalate, our talent platform built exactly for this.
